Athletics - Sprint

Sprinting is a type of running characterised by a short and very intense effort to develop maximum running speed. We terms short and long sprints are used depending on the duration of the effort, as the types of energy substrates used by the muscles, and consequently the speed achieved, depends on the duration of the effort. An athlete who competes in sprints is referred to as a sprinter. In order to cover the distance as quickly as possible, the sprinter must perform the various stages of a race as effectively as possible, i.e. their reaction to the start phase, their acceleration and the speed maintenance phase up to the finish.
