Athletics - Shot Put

Shot put is a field and track event, which consists of throwing a metal ball as far as possible. The discipline has been present at the Summer Olympic Games and World Athletics Championships since its beginnings. Competitors take up their position inside a circle 2.1 metres in diameter. They must rest the projectile between the neck and the shoulder, and push their throwing arm straight. The distance of the throw is measured from the front of the circle to where the projectile hits the ground. The competitor achieving the greatest distance is declared the winner. In the men's competition, the projectile has a mass of 7.26 kilograms, while the women's projectile 4 kilograms.
