Boules - Bourle

Bourle is played on a curved area, the bourloire, which is 20 to 28 metres long and 3 to 3.5 metres wide. At 50 cm from each end, a stake or a copper disc 3 cm in diameter is set in place. This is the "étaque", which is to be reached with the bourle. The bourle is a large disc made of guaiac or quebracho wood weighing between 4 and 8 kg. The game consists of placing the bourles as close as possible to the étaque. It is played in pairs or in teams of 3 or 6 players, each team having 6 bourles. Each team is led by a commander who will try to place his bourles while his teammates will throw their bourles so that they constitute obstacles in order to hamper the opposing team’s play.
