Water Sports - Water Polo

Water polo is an aquatic team sport between two teams of seven players. It became an Olympic sport in 1900 for men, and in 2000 for women. A water polo team consists of 7 players with 6 substitutes. One goalkeeper and 6 outfield players play in the water at the same time for each team. They may enter the game at any time from their own exclusion zone (beyond the goal line), as soon as the team is in possession of the ball. An official match consists of 4 periods of 8 minutes each of actual play.
