Combat Sports - Self-Defence

Self-defence is the mastery of combat techniques to deal with physical aggression. It is also sometimes referred to as close combat or street fighting. The teaching of self-defence is often based on martial arts or combat sports with one major difference: martial arts pay particular attention to respect for the opponent, sometimes even called “partner”; in self-defence, the goal is to stop the attack as quickly as possible, before being subdued, injured or even killed. While safety rules are strictly observed during teaching and training, with the use of imitation weapons and the wearing of protective gear, the actual application is done without any respect for the attacker, since the attacker does not respect the victim. The response must be proportionate to the attack, and can be considered as an act of self-defence if one is attacked first.
