Combat Sports - Kendo
Kendo, literally “the way of the sword” is the modern version of kenjutsu, the sword fencing practised by samurai in Japan in the past. In its modern version, it must be understood that Kendo is not only a martial art but also a competitive sport. Kendo is more than just a set of sword fighting techniques and tactics. It also includes a spiritual component. It allows its practitioners to develop their strength of character and determination. According to the international rules, fights go up to a maximum of three points, over a period of five minutes within a combat area measuring 11 m on each side. The winner is the first to score two points before the end of regulation time, or the one who has scored a point at the end of the time.
