Winter Sports - Cross-Country Skiing

Cross-country skiing is a winter sport in the Nordic skiing family, popular especially in Northern Europe, Canada, Russia and more widely throughout Eastern Europe or Alaska. It is practised on snow-covered and groomed areas (otherwise it is called Nordic skiing). It has inspired other disciplines such as ski jumping, Nordic combined (a combination of ski jumping and cross-country skiing) and biathlon (a combination of rifle shooting and cross-country skiing). It has been an Olympic sport since the establishment of the Olympic Winter Games in 1924.
