Skating - Figure Skating

Figure skating is a sport as well as a demonstration of art executed on ice (synthetic or artificial) that improves physical qualities and develops artistic sensitivity and that is performed with blade skates. Competitions divide skaters into four disciplines: women's individual, men's individual, pair (with jumps and lifts added) and ice dancing. The segments in each of these disciplines are separated into two parts: the short programme (2 min. 30 to 2 min. 50 and includes some compulsory elements) and the free programme (4 min. to 4 min. 30 in free choreography). The sum of the scores of these two programmes gives the total score on which the final ranking and podium is based.
