Triathlon
Triathlon is a sporting discipline consisting of three endurance events in a row: swimming, cycling and running. Its modern form officially appeared in the United States in 1974 and has been developing worldwide ever since. Practised over a wide variety of distances, triathlon became an Olympic discipline in 2000 at the Sydney Games over the standard distance of 1,500 metres swimming, 40 kilometres cycling and 10 kilometres running. Modern triathlon is a sport created for men and women to compete together, where the practitioners are called “triathletes” who enter the vast majority of competitions within the same event, according to the same rules. Several derivative sports have emerged in the wake of its development, such as duathlon, aquathlon and paratriathlon.
