Athletics - Pole Vaulting

Pole vaulting is a track and field event in the jumping category. It consists, after a run-up, of using a flexible pole to jump over a horizontal bar placed several metres high, without dislodging it. A pole vault competition is conducted in the same way as a high jump competition: it starts at a defined height varying according to the level; each athlete starts at the desired height provided it is greater than or equal to the height defined above. Each pole vaulter has three attempts per height and, if he or she passes it, gets three more attempts for the next height, otherwise he or she is eliminated and his or her performance is the last height passed.
