Winter Sports - Toboggan / Bobsleigh / Skeleton

A toboggan is a vehicle that you sit on to slide on snow or ice. It differs from the sled, which uses a driving force to move and the bobsleigh, which has a brake and steering control. It is, by extension, a sport in which the tobogganer runs down a track lying down with the feet to the front. The first competitions were held in Switzerland as early as 1883. The first world championships began in 1955 and it was another nine years before this discipline became part of the Olympic Games.
