Dance - Polka

The polka is danced in pairs in circular movements. It originates from Bohemia. The word polka comes from the Czech půlka (half), describing the chased step (half step) used as a basis for this dance. The polka is also specific to the Slavic regions and the Baltic countries (Western Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania...) and Central Europe (Switzerland, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary). It is danced in two beats, with a fairly fast tempo and pronounced rhythms.
